The Role of the Leader as ‘Coach’ in Nurturing
High-performance Culture and Ensuring Succession Planning

“What is your key leadership style?” A question of concern for all leaders as change, complexity and uncertainty pervade the workplace. What does your organisation’s ‘human capital’ mean to you? According to Thomas (2013), Human Capital encapsulates ‘people, their performance and their potential in the organisation’. What does your organisation’s high potential list look like? Specifically, how do you as a senior executive pinpoint and nurture future leaders with high potential?

Developing the next generation of leaders is reported as the top concern for 55% of CEOs, respondents in a 2021 Development Dimensions Intl. (DDI) Leadership survey. This concern was followed closely by global recession and slowing economic growth (54%) and attracting and retaining top talent (52%).

Turning to your Untapped Talent Pipeline, under your nose in-house, is an obvious option i.e., engaging in internal recruitment, nurturing strong employee engagement resting on succession planning based on Person-Job matching.

The Leader, as on-site, hands-on Coach ensures the development of existing employees as a time-efficient and cost-effective approach to growing talent from within the organisation.

For the progressive, future-oriented Leader, balancing self-knowledge with organisational awareness and a Coaching Leadership style aids building bench strength and succession planning from within, based on matching talent to roles, as a natural fit.

Introducing the DEAP Talent Management Continuum, coaching and growing talent from within the organisation is the game-changer required when navigating uncertain times.
